Four-Part Writing Special Part 4: Ultimate Goals

by - April 26, 2019

What is one of the biggest goals you have for your life?

To glorify God through the work of my hands. (Cliche? Yes. Honest? Also yes.) I want to write books that, even if they aren't explicitly Christian, have the heart of someone who loves God. I want to do a job that brings Him glory. I want Him to be praised. I am small, but He is great and He deserves all glory and praise.

Name the biggest goal you've got! (Don't worry, we won't judge).

I want this world to be a place that protects its innocent and remembers the light. I don't believe that I can single-handedly save the world, but I want to be a tool in God's hand to remind people that we're all made in his image and that the weak are just as valuable as the strong.

What goal scares you the most? Why?

Going to college *cringes* I'm pretty scared of that. I believe it's what God has called me to do and that I'm doing the right thing by pursuing college, but it scares me anyway, especially the idea of moving so far from home.

What steps do you need to reach some of your goals?

Some immediate steps:
-Graduating high school (yikes)
-Get some internships in pro-life work that will get my foot in the door for that field
-Realm Makers (as well as pitching, querying, and looking for an agent or press...yikes)
-Writing MORE and getting more books and drafts completed

Have your ultimate goals changed? Have you decided not to do something, or to do something differently?

Well, I'm no longer even thinking about majoring in English or Writing. It's not something that I find reasonable. I can't really afford to go to school for a degree that will only make it possible for me to teach or freelance, neither of which interest me.

Do you plan to finish your current story ideas and then do other things in the future, or do you see yourself always having some story in the works?

Dude, I don't think I could stop writing even if I wanted to xD I'm always getting plot bunnies, so we'll see. I have at least three series to occupy me once I've finished the Pentegreen series.

If you could only get one book/series/trilogy published, which would it be?

From somewhere far off, Esma's mother’s voice whispered, "You are more than fear, my love. You are a young woman of considerable strength."

Even the words Burashna had once said echoed through her mind: "She may not have Nellie’s power, but I sense that same flame within her."

I am the child of fire and the Heir of Kings, she reminded herself. I am more than fear.

The Pentegreen Series, for sure. Esma Pentegreen, Rishatta Woods, and the rest of them have my heart and I don't think they'll ever let go.

Realistically, where do you see yourself in the future?

Working at a pro-life organization after graduating from college with a degree in government or communication, writing in my free time, hopefully single.

Reality aside, where would you like to be in the future?

...honest, reality is probably about where I'd like to be. I'm not hoping for marriage or kids anytime soon, and I'd love to live as a single professional for a while. And of course, being president of the USA eventually would be a nice dream, although unlikely to happen.

Do you see yourself as a Writer, or just someone who writes?

I don't plan on making writing into my career. At the same time, though, I think I can pull off being bivocational, or both writing and having a career in activism. Especially if I'm single. (In case y'all haven't noticed, I'm vaguely uninterested in marriage, lol.)

That's it for this week--and for this linkup! It's been a blast and I hope y'all have enjoyed reading my posts, as well as those of the other participants! What are some of your hopes for the future? Do you see yourself as a career writer? Chat with me in the comments below!

  8. Wow sheesh, these are amazing life goals. And mine are...

    *crickets*

Whelp, I want a career as an author and that is pretty much my dream. I want my only job to be to write full time. I'm not entirely sure how attainable that is so I'm also dabbling in programming a little bit because it beats retail. Or maybe I'll just marry a (preferably rich) dude who will provide for me, quit my job and live out the hermit life I've always dreamed with my (preferably rich) husband and laptop for company. And about three or four dogs.

As you can see, I have big plans for my future XD

Honestly though, if you ran for president I would vote for you ;P

  9. I love #1 - I hope to do the same :)

I can understand the fear of college - being a homebody, college was a rough adjustment. But, I can tell you from experience, that it will be one of the best experiences of your life :)

Being single is most certainly a legitimate vocation. Sure, not that many people are called to it, but that's okay! Who knows what God has in store for you! Being a pro-life advocate puts you in a sort of position of spiritual mothering - which can be just as beneficial as physical motherhood, in my opinion!

And for the record, I think you'd make a much better politician than what we have in DC right now, LOL.

Yes! Singleness is something I appreciate very, very much. <3

      Haha, thanks! <3

  10. Dude. I would vote for you. (Finally someone good to vote for, lol) (And that gives away my political opinion...)

But hey, not everyone is called to be married, or even called to be married while young. Just gotta glorify God in whatever comes your way.

  12. It's kind of sad the linkup's over! It's been so fun to follow.

Your goals are so great! And I love that you want to be involved in activism. We definitely need more Christian activists out there.

Recently for the first time (at least in a very long time) I've actually had a rough plan for my future... which has been so hard to do. Writing is pretty much the only thing I'm interested in as a career, yet it's so uncertain how successful I'll be. So my plan right now is, as soon as I'm financially able, to open a coffee shop in my town. Eventually I might go into freelance editing... and of course, I'll always be writing.

And dude, college scares me too. And I'm not even moving away. xD

Thanks! I love the idea of getting out there and fighting for God's kingdom. <3

That's so awesome!!!! I'm so happy for you, and a coffee shop sounds AMAZING! I was a barista, and it's hard work, but very rewarding. <3 Best of luck! You got this!

      RIGHT?! XD
