4-Part Writing Special Part 1: Camp NaNo Goal/Project

by - April 05, 2019

Hello everybody, and welcome to this month's edition of the 4-Part WIP Special! This week I'm going to be talking about my Camp NaNoWriMo goals (Camp has already started! WAHOO!) and I'm pretty darn pumped to be back at this hardcore first drafting game. It's been a while.

The Questions

What WIP are you working on this Camp NaNo?

Book 3 of the Pentegreen series (again), The Winter's Chill.

What goal did you set for it, and why did you choose that goal?

My goal is 120,000 words! I've already written over 70k of it, so it'll be like a full NaNo without going crazy. The first book in my series is hovering around that point (it's fluctuating a bit as I add and subtract stuff with edits), and the second book will probably be around 120k as well. So that's about the length I want the books in this series to be. *shrugs*

Can you give us a short synopsis of the WIP?

(First off, a brief apology for the fact that this is the book 3 blurb. I do have a blurb for book 2 coming next week! So if you've beta read book 1 and want to know what's happening in book 2, next week I'll share a blurb that will tell you absolutely nothing make you go out to kill me all over again. So. Anyway. Book 3.)

"I hear my army has taken to calling her 'the girl no one can catch...'"

Esma Pentegreen has known loss, but nothing like this. She has felt pain, but never has she been lashed so deeply. Alone but for two companions, she flees deep into the wilderness of Venaria in a desperate attempt to escape the assassins hunting her blood. But winter has spread its talons over the land, and few are prepared for the cruelty of a Venarian winter...

Derek Ternarnthien didn't mean for any of this to happen--but here he is. Desperate to save his nation, his city, and the ones he loves, he makes a choice that throws him right into the wolves' den, where his every move will determine whether he lives or dies.

Lord Dauthang stands poised on the edge of Misue--but the city has never fallen and does not mean to start now.

The players are in position. The board is locked. And this may be the most deadly game of all...

How long have you been working on this WIP?

Too long? I started it in May 2018 and I am SO READY to be done with it at long last. *grimaces*

Where did the idea come from?

I needed time between the events of book two, The General's Children, and book four, The Queen's Heart. And I had to set up a couple of very important conflicts that come into play in book 4--some power-related stuff, some big reveals, some, erm, relationship stuff. *pulls the curtain lower over this story*

Do you think you'll be able to meet your goal? Why or why not?

Oh gosh, I sure hope so xD

Did you make any goals for March (Camp Prep)? Were you able to fulfill those?

My goal was to finish editing book 2! Hopefully that's done by now! But probably not! XD (Edit: it is NOT done. I am a chicken and this ending involves lots of fighting and also death and my villain being the actual worst of the worst and I hate it.) (Edit on the edit: IT IS DONE! aNd It is infinitely long and makes me cry and is probably trash. So.)

Are there any aesthetics/music you'd like to share? Any goals related to these artistic endeavors?

ahh, yes, my favorite part of these posts! Please hold while I spam you with aesthetics that will take up twice the length of the rest of the post.

Hold me in this wild world...'cuz in your warmth I forget how cold it can be ~Bastille

The dreams won't leave me alone.
And she--she's both my dream come true and my worst nightmare.

She destroyed him, and you expect him to forgive her?

Aesthetic of one of my favorite charries

I know everything about you, darling. You've hidden yourself well. Very well. The paint is more effective than even you know. But...it's time to drop the charade. I know who you are.

She had fire in her eyes when she told me they'd never come back

They called us the villains, brother. But no more. Now we rise.

fall out boy, my songs know what you did in the dark

One drop of blood. Worth so much.

Tell me, where did you get that power? My dear girl, you'll be the best assassin this world has ever seen.

Derek nodded. “You make yourself entirely clear, milady.” Anna's father’s voice shone through very strongly in her most recent words. His belief that she was a Woods skyrocketed back and forth between disbelief and absolute certainty.

He supposed this was why you never tangled too close to a Venarian, and most certainly not to a Woods. And a female Woods...they might as well kill him now.

And here's another one, because I love Derek's POV and I can't pick between the two. xD

Derek swooped Emmy up in his arms.

“Hey!” she protested, but wrapped her arms around his neck and let him hold her.

“Who gave you permission to get so big?” he whispered in her ear.

She gave him a reproachful look. “You’re never around! Maybe if you came home occasionally I wouldn’t seem so big. Because you’d be used to me growing.”

What was it about women these days and their ability to make him instantly feel guilty about everything he did? He eased her down and looked imploringly to his mother for backup.

What's a Bible verse that sums up the theme in your WIP?

"You have taken account of my wanderings, put my tears in your bottle; are they not in your book?" Psalm 56:8

That's it, everyone! Week 1 is complete; I hope you'll check out the other participants' posts. Have a great week and if you're doing Camp, best of luck!

Are you doing Camp NaNo? If so, what's your project; if not, what are you writing right now? Does this book sound cool? (Because I'll be honest, I made it sound WAY more cool than it actually is. Heh). Chat with me in the comments!
