7 Movies I'll ALWAYS Recommend//(most of them are animated)

by - July 19, 2019

(I won't be replying to comments on this post for a little while, because it's an AT REALM MAKERS POST!!!!!! I am at Realm Makers right this very minute and (hopefully, lol) having the time of my life, so I'll catch up with your comments when I get back!!!! Hope you enjoy in the meantime ^_^)

I'm a movie buff. I haven't seen a tooooonnnnn of movies, at least not compared to most people who have said they're movie buffs, but those I have seen, I am fiercely loyal about. Today, I'll be bringing you a list, not of my personal top movies, but of the seven that I will always recommend with 0 qualms. (Okay, some of them aren't appropriate for VERY small children, but I'm keeping it light and easy today so if you're reading this post you should be able to handle everything on the list xD)

Without further ado: THE LIST.

Amazing Grace

AMAZING GRACE

"God has laid upon my heart two great objects: the abolition of the slave trade and the reformation of society." ~William Wilberforce
Let's just get this one out of the way right up front. You're not surprised by this at all, I'm sure--if you've been following me for any length of time, you know that this is my favorite movie of all time. Amazing Grace is the story of William Wilberforce and his fight to end slavery in England back in the early 1800s, and it's so powerful. With God's help and some serious conviction, he was able to bring that evil to an end--WITHOUT a war, like in the US. Also he and Barbara Spooner are absolutely my OTP, the acting is spot-on, the costumes are amazing, Thomas Clarkson is hilariously tragic, and Fox is just the best. If you haven't seen this one yet, what are you waiting for? *taps fingers and stares at you impatiently* GO SEE IT!!!!!!!

The Lego Movie

The Lego Movie (2014) One Sheet Movie Poster
"Okay, I think I got it, but just in case...tell me the whole thing again, I wasn't listening." ~Emmett
This one, y'all. It's not just for kids. It's hilariously funny and I notice new things every time I watch it. I'll never get over my love for this movie--I laugh, I cry, and I still remember watching it in the theater and being enthralled even though I'd seen it before that free-movie time. The animation is beautiful. The quotes are fantastic. You can watch it with your younger siblings. The messages are great. I have literally nothing bad to say about this one.

Cinderella (2015)

Cinderella (2015) PG | What to Watch.
"Have courage, and be kind." ~Ella's mother
I grew up on the old animated Disney Cinderella, and I know a million people have a million different opinions on the new one. But I love it. The messages, the sweet heroine, and KIIIIIITTTTTT. (I have never in my life seen a Disney prince who I've actually liked or thought was handsome. BUT KIT. That boy is SMOKIN'.) In a day and age where "strong female lead" or "damsel in distress" are seen as the only options for girls in fiction, Ella is so refreshing, because it's her kindness and sweetness that makes her strong. *slams fist on the table* GIVE ME MORE GIRLS LIKE THIS!

Curious George (2005)

Curious George [Blu-ray] [2006]
"And you! You hired a monkey to paint your apartment. How do you sleep at night?" ~Ted
Fun fact: when I was three, this was the first movie I went to see in the theater, and it scared me so badly we actually had to walk out. I was wimpy about movies even back then xD But I've gotten better, don't worry. MUCH better. I now watch this movie ad nauseam and quote it at least once a day. WILL FERRELL and Dick Van Dyke, people. And the most adorable version of Curious George that has ever graced the silver screen. This movie is a blessing.

The Lord of the Rings

Wallpaper for "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" (2001)
"All we can do is decide what to do with the time that is given us." ~Gandalf
Obviously this is one that you're not going to want to watch with small children, but I rest my case that it is possibly one of the single best movies EVER MADE. There is nothing you can say that will ever, ever change my mind on that. The Return of the King in particular is the most beautiful and sweeping piece of cinematic storytelling I can think of. You can keep your Game of Thrones and your Amazon remakes. Nothing--and I mean nothing--can ever outdo Peter Jackson's original epic series. Does it have some issues? Sure. Does it deviate from the books? Absolutely! But honestly...I don't want to focus on that. There's enough bashing of these movies that goes on. They're so good--even if you're a book fan, you should give them the appreciation they deserve.

The Princess Bride

The Princess Bride (1987), Directed by Rob Reiner One of my favorites since I was a kid. Great movie for girls but not too girly that boys can watch it too.
"Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something." ~The Dread Pirate Roberts
I could go on and on about how funny this movie is and how great the quotes are, but for the moment, let's just get this out of the way: NOTHING CAN OUTDO THE PRINCESS BRIDE IN TERMS OF QUOTES. It's snappy, it's witty, it's hilarious, and you can utilize the quotes in nearly any situation. JUST SO GOOD OKAY. Watch it, if you haven't.

Pilgrim's Progress: Journey to Heaven (2008)

Pilgrim's Progress: Journey To Heaven
"Just run! And don't look back."~Evangelist
The book version of Pilgrim's Progress was one of my favorite books when I was younger. I did, in fact, own an unedited version of the original King James language story, and that may be part of the reason why I was such an advanced reader in elementary school. I had several other versions of the story, but this movie is one of my favorite versions. If you want to see a wonderful depiction of the difficulty in the Christian walk and the pain that every follower of Christ must endure, as well as the joy and relief we face in knowing Jesus, you need to watch this movie. It's absolutely terrific.

That's my list! What would you guys say are your top recommendable movies? Do you agree with my assessments and have you seen this version of Pilgrim's Progress? Chat with me in the comments!!!!

  2. Oh my gosh, have a wonderful time at Realm Makers!!

As for your list, it is AWESOME. I so agree with the Cinderella 2015, and Princess Bride (YES). None of the others I've really seen, though LOTR and Amazing Grace are on my to-watch list.

And I can so relate to being wimpy for movies as a little kid...I really can. I used to scream and cry and hide, they were so traumatic. Poor little Catherine couldn't tell the difference between real and fiction yet.

Second, YES!!!!! YES, YES, YES, YES!!! AAAAAAHHHH!!!!! I have seen all of these (okay, except Pilgrim's Process: Journey to Heaven, and TTT and RotK, but I'm workin' on it). Amazing Grace and Cinderella are two of my top favorite movies of all time!! I always bawl my eyes out because they are so beautiful! I didn't think that I would like The LEGO Movie, but the animation was awesome, and it was so sweet and funny. I can't even tell you how many times I've watched Curious George (that paint scene XD) and The Princess Bride (THE QUOTES), but it is a lot. Great list! (Sorry that this comment is a mess).

YESSS CINDERELLA. THE PRINCESS BRIDE. LORD. OF. THE. RINGS. SO much goodness in all of those. :D For some reason I always forget about The Princess Bride when I'm thinking about my favorite movies but it's just the best. So fun and hysterical.

I would have to add Tangled to my list... it's definitely one of my favorite movies. Also, another one that I more recently grew to appreciate, is Tuck Everlasting. It's so hauntingly magical and if you haven't seen it, you really just should go watch it. *shrugs*
