Waiting on the Lord

I'm back!

I'm now going to do a post on patience. The patience that you had to endure as you waited with bated breath for me to return from my hiatus. Post on the reason for it coming soon!

(Note: this is my first time attempting to use Canva, so this is almost certainly terrible. If you have any advice for how to make it better, by all means, tell me!)

We usually refer to patience as the practice that allows you to sit in the waiting room at the dentist and not complain, or maybe what you have to exhibit as you wait for Marissa Meyer's new book (hint, hint...) Unlike the common usage of the words belonging to most of the fruits of the Spirit, this one is actually quite true. We all need to get better at our patience when we have to wait for something we want to do (or not do.)

However, patience also has a double meaning. The second meaning is this big churchy word you've most likely heard at some point in your life:

Longsuffering.

What is longsuffering?

It's when you are dying inside and you press on. It's when the cause that keeps you up late at night is burning you out and you need a break, but you have to keep going. It's when everything in life is crashing around you and you just sit there remembering the Lord's promise that he will never leave you or forsake you.

You will never be alone.

We all need to work on this. Putting our heads down and standing in the rain when we know that there's not much by way of hope, and our umbrellas do nothing for us. I know that I struggle with this. The last couple of years for me have been full of trial and difficulty, both at home and out in the world, and every time it happens I have to remind myself every day that Jesus is enough. That I must just carry on and wait for the moment when I'm aware of the fact that he's picked me up in his arms.

It's such a struggle, everyone.
Believe me, I know how it feels.

But it's a necessary trait to have.

And when you have it, and can carry on even through the worst of the trials...

Well, there's no telling what God will do. And that will bring him the glory. Which is where it needs to be. Longsuffering, like all the other fruits of the Spirit, is an exercise that we must learn to bring glory to God. When his people can stand up under the storm and give him the credit, he is glorified.

And that's why it's so important.

How are you guys doing? Chat with me! I promise I'll reply as soon as I can!

  1. That first gif is my favorite. I'm glad you're back. I've been waiting for this post and you did not disappoint. This was something I needed to hear. I'm having a lot of problems with figuring out what's next in life and I feel as if I'm between chapters in the book of my life. But I know this moment is important. I know the Author of my story is in full control.

...But that doesn't mean its not hard. Such a great post, Faith! I really love this series you're doing.

    God bless you! <3

    1. I love that gif too! I'm glad to be back. I've missed blogging.

I hope you figure out what the next step is. In all honesty, the slower chapters are sometimes the ones where we have to pay the most attention. God holds every detail in his hands, and everything happens for a reason.

Thank you so much! I love it too. :)

    2. Thanks, Gray. It's a free program that lets you make web graphics using templates (which is a good thing, because I have no clue how to do that... :/) I hope it's okay...

and I'm glad you like the post :)

  4. I recently did a Bible study on patience, and OMG IT'S INCREDIBLE. My favorite part of the definition is: The suffering of afflictions, provocations, or other evil with a calm, unruffled temper that may spring from a submission to the Divine Will. <3

Also, I think that the Canva (or whatever it's called) looks FANTASTIC. Are you a wizard? because I'm pretty sure it's magic.

    1. That's really great. :) It's a hard skill to master, but at the same time, it's so necessary.

Thanks! It's actually just a template that I typed my words on, but... you know.

  7. That first gif, though.

I literally spent the whole post just nodding. I can relate to having some difficult times in the past couple years. Having to not just know the word patience but live it out day by day is... well, a day to day struggle. But like you said, when we do that and He is glorified, amazing things start happening.

    Thanks for these posts!
