10 Male Characters I Will Love Forever

by - February 11, 2019

Good morning, everyone! Valentine's Day is nearly upon us...which means it's high time for me to share with all of y'all a nice little list of my favorite fictional guys! I don't do real-life dating, which means that all my love life stuff has to come from the pages of books or from the screen. So, here I will provide you with a list of my top 10 male characters, most of whom are from books exclusively, although a couple of them are movie guys as well.

Without further ado, I give you:

10. Dustfinger [Inkheart by Cornelia Funke]

Yeah, he's pretty darn hot (literally) and he's pretty incredible. I absolutely love him, and while I haven't seen the movie and am probably not going to,  he's one of my favorite book characters ever. I will always be a fan of the conflicted antihero type. *smirks*

9. Leith Torren [The Blades of Acktar]

27997995

This booooooy. This boy. This assassin boy. <3 I love him with all my heart. Such a wonderful boy. That's about all I can say about him.

8. Keefe Sencen [Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger]

13260670

Lord Hunkyhair is amazing and I love him and he better win Sophie's heart, that's all I can say about that.

7. Janner Igiby [The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson]

Technically he's way too young for me, but Janner is just a beautiful human being, one of the most real and relatable characters I've ever read about. His character arc is the sort of thing I aspire to write myself someday. I could rave about this boy for HOURS.

6. Lazlo Strange [Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor]

Have you ever met a fictional character where you feel that searing connection? From now on, everything that happens to that character happens to you; you love everything about them, from their darkness to their highest point. When they triumph, you triumph. When they are happy, so are you. Their loves are yours. Yeah, that's Lazlo Strange for me. He's just the most perfect and wonderful and beautiful little librarian-turned-hero who has ever existed, k?

5. Aragorn II [Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien]

So...I had a ton of trouble choosing a gif for him? Because there's just SO MANY good ones. Hee. But this man...I'm doing a very prolonged rewatch of the LotR movie trilogy rn and I HAVE NEVER LOVED HIM SO MUCH. (also, I know he does get married in the series and I don't begrudge him that at all, but I'm sure grateful he's single for a while or he wouldn't make this list XD)

4. Eomer [Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien]

Yeah, let's admit it...Eomer ranks higher than Aragorn, but only just slightly. (I would put Sam on here, but my love for him is not quite the same ;)) Eomer is such an epic and underrated character (I mean, come on, he killed TWO MUMAKIL SINGLE-HANDEDLY, for Pete's sake. That tops even Legolas). I love him so very much.

3. Tony Stark [Marvel]

This guy, y'all. THIS GUY. I'm planning on doing a whole post as Endgame gets closer about why he's a wonderful character and the real hero of the MCU, but for the time being, I'll jut say that HE IS MY FAVORITE and I will never get over him. Never.

2. Obi-Wan Kenobi [Star Wars, George Lucas]

My first fictional love and still one of the ones I love the most, even more so than many of my more recent faves. Obviously when I say this, I mean only Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan as well as the one from the Clone Wars (Alec Guinness is wonderful, but in a--shall we say--different way xD). He's got so many excellent lines, he's beautiful (really), and I just plain really love him, 'mkay? We're good. He's great *drops the mic*

And number 1....

Prince Leonard Lionheart of Southlands [Tales of Goldstone Wood by Anne Elisabeth Stengl]

11756117
(Obviously that's not Leo on the cover...not sure who it's supposed to be, honestly. Varvare's mother?)

OKAY, SO YOU GUYS. MY LEO.

I love that he's controversial, honestly, because that means I can have him while everyone else fights about whether or not he's a coward. I adore Leo with all my heart. He's such a puppy dog, and while he's terrified of everything and has SUCH a character arc, he ends up in SUCH  a good place. I love him so much, and I want to give him a huge hug and tell him that I too know how much the world sucks. He's such a poor innocent little boy who made some big mistakes and cannot atone for them, and...oh, my boy. His character arc. LEO.

*screams*

So there you have it--my top 10 male characters of ever! Who are some of your preferred male characters, and why? Do you agree with any of mine? (Hee hee.) Chat with me in the comments!

  1. KEEFE!!!! JANNER!!!!!! EOMER!!!!!! ARAGORN!!!!!!! GAH, THEY’RE ALL SO GOOD!!!!

(Wow, that was definitely not how I pictured Lazlo. I’m not sure how I pictured him before, but I can tell you that it wasn’t like that. XD)

Heck yeah, Leo’s awesome. No, he’s not the most perfect guy ever, but he tries to fix his mistakes, and that I can admire. (Don’t worry - you won’t have to fight me for him. I’ve got Prince Zuko. XD)

This was a really great post idea, since Valentine’s Day is coming up! ;)

    1. YES!!!! YES!!!! YES!!!!! YES!!!!!!!! XD

Really? XD I feel like that fanart is absolutely PERFECT for his description in the book--the sort of ruffian look, with the nose broken by fairy tales and the kind eyes <3 But that may be because I was having so much trouble picturing the Mesarthim that I kept having to look up pictures of them and that helped to build my mental image throughout the story xD

Okay, good ^_^ I love Leo with alllllll my heart.

Thanks! And yeah, that's why I went with it ;)

  2. Never heard of some of these. Time to read some more books. (not LotR though. XD)

As for my favorite... Fin. from Worlds Beneath. He's mine. I love him.

but you probably knew this already.

I like Icarus, too, but I like him with Hawk. I ship them. However, Fin is mine. XD

Yep, thought so xD I still need to read that one...I have it sitting on the shelf and everything :/

Yes!!!!!! XD I ship pretty much all of these characters with the person they're actually with, but...I'm also apparently wanting them to marry me as well. I guess I'll just go with Eomer since he never actually gets married, if I'm remembering correctly. Lol.

  3. Awesome post! Haha, I don't think you want me to get talking about all of my fictional crushes. Like you, that's the only love life I've got right now, but I'll list some of them.

First of all, AHHHH, Aragorn is definitely on that list. (and you're right! Eomer is underappreciated. I love him so much! Just not in a romantic sort of way so no worries, he's all yours XD)

I love Obi-Wan Kenobi with all my heart but in a slightly different way, my husband from Star Wars is Han Solo XD

    Owen Brady from Jurassic World
    Rick O'Connel from The Mummy
Peter Bishop from the TV series Fringe
Will Turner- WILL TURNER IS A BIG ONE. This boy has held my heart since I was a little girl.

Basically any of the heroes that Janette Rallison has written. I would gladly marry any one of them, but Dane from Son of War, Daughter of Chaos may be my favorite... *grimaces because then there is also Donovan, Tristan, Colton, and Logan*

Peeta Mellark! This cinnamon roll is probably why I have read the Hunger Games so many times XD

And finally... Zachary Goode from Gallagher Girls. This guy is probably my main boyfriend if I had to pick one. Now excuse me, I have to go make sure that I have a date with this suave spy for Valentine's ;P

    1. Apologies for cutting into the conversation here, but DID SOMEONE MENTION WILL TURNER???? :) gah, I love that guy so much. (but you can have him - I’m not going to fight you. XD)

    2. Oh goodness, GO FOR IT! I will always be happy to squeal about fictional crushes xD

ARAGORN is all the yes <3 <3 <3 And Eomer is SO underappreciated! When I watched LotR recently I was living for the Rohan peoples. All the love for them. Always.

Han Solo is also marvelous. But my sister has claimed him and so I make do with Obi-Wan (who am I kidding, I obviously love him more...lol.)

Will Turner is great! I haven't actually seen any of the other movies you mention (shameful, right?!) but Will is pretty awesome <3

Ahhhh, I have not heard of this author? *goes to add these books to my TBR*

PEETAAAAA. I have such mixed feelings on him (I mean, he's so wimpy sometimes...but also he's great xD) Just no Gale, please. Ugh...

Ugh, I definitely need to read Gallagher Girls too! Why do you also recommend fifty books for my TBR????? XD

    3. @Nicole- YESSSS, another Will Turner fan. Haha, all right then, good ;P

      @Faith- Haha, maybe I will then ;P

Aragorn <3 *sighs* He is! That extended scene where he finds Eoywn during the battle of Pelinor Fields always drives me to tears. The Rohan peoples are not underappreciated by me! They were always my favorite civilization for some reason XD Probably the horses tbh...

Lol, I think my sister feels the same way. Except I claimed both Han and Obi-Wan XD

He is! I love him so much <3 (tsk tsk, methinks that you should remedy that ;P)

Aw man if you haven't heard of Janette Rallison before then I have failed you as a friend because she's one of my favorite authors if not my favorite! I love her books so much!!!

PEEETTAAAAA!!! There are no mixed feelings, he gets all of the love. I don't think Peeta is wimpy at all. He's maybe a little softspoken, but honestly I think he's the strongest character because only someone as strong as Peeta could live through what he did and still be so inherently good. Ugh, no Gale...

YES YOU DO!!!! Um, sorry? Not really because you need to read those books XD

  6. Yes, Tony Stark is 100% the real hero of MCU!!! So many people hate him, but I absolutely love his character and wish we had more people like him in movies.

    Also, Eomer is soooo awesome!!!

    Loved this list!!!

  8. I LOVE THIS POST. Fictional boyfriends are the best boyfriends. ;D

I haven't read The Blades of Acktar, Keeper of the Lost Cities, The Wingfeather Saga, or Strange the Dreamer. YET. But they're alllll on my TBR and I already know enough about these character to know I WILL LOVE THEM. (Well, actually I don't know much about Keeper of the Lost Cities, but you've intrigued me greatly! And the "Lord Hunkyhair" remark made me laugh way too hard. He DOES have some pretty fabulous hair, gotta admit. XD)

As for the others... YESSSS!!! Especially Aragorn. I was shocked to see Eomer is higher on the list than mah boy Aragorn. o.o Aragorn is my #1 Middle-earth BF. Though I love ALL of them so, so much.

TONY STAAARK. Yes to EVERYTHING you said! I am PUMPED for this coming Tony post you speak of. Yassss.

Okay but Leo. LEOOOO. I will fight to my very. last. breath. to defend him. Yes, he made mistakes, but that was the POINT. His arc and character is so REAL and epic and slkjdflskjdf. Seriously one of the BEST fictional characters ever written. I LOVE HIM WITH ALL MY HEART AND SOUL. *screams with you*

THIS POST JUST MADE ME HAPPY. All the precious fictional bois! <3

    1. Fictional boys > real boys. It's just the way of it. xD

GURL. What are you even doing with your life?! These are some of my absolute favorite books! KOTLC is pretty long--already 7 books with somewhere between 500-800 pages each, oof--but it's still SO SO GOOD even if it does have a bit too much fluff xD Lord Hunkyhair is what he calls himself at some point, so...if it's good enough for him, it's a good enough name for me. xD He's my absolutely favorite.

Yes!!!!! I normally would say Aragorn is better, but...Eomer is slightly better boyfriend material since he's single XD

YES YES YES!!!!! I'm really excited to share that one--it should be coming out in Mayish, so super long from now, but I want it to be timely for the upcoming movie. ;)

LEOOOOOOOOO is my precious baby. I have to admit, most of the reason I read Shadow Hand as fast as I did was because I desperately wanted more about him and his little cameo was LIFE. Ugh, I need moooooore with that boy.

      THANK YOU!!!!!!! <3

  9. *sobs* THIS POST

Dustfinger is such an intriguing character. Like he's got flaws and all, but still...he's a good character. The movie is alright...if you watch it apart from the books and just enjoy the slightly different story it tells.

Leith (and Martyn) are the best, though. (Also, I've been writing some BoA fanfiction on the side, involving a "What if Harrison Vane didn't die?" plot....so that's been fun.)

I really want to read the Goldstone Wood books. Actually have the first one, just haven't gotten around to reading it yet. They sound so good, though!!

Isn't he?! I don't think I'll be watching the movie anytime soon, just because I love the books so so very much, but I liked the gif xD

Leith is terrific! And ooh, that sounds like an interesting fanfic. Very interesting...I'd be very interested to see how that plays out xD

Yes!!!!!!!! I really hope you do like them when you get around to reading them ;)
