Never Have I Ever Tag (Writers' Edition!)

by - March 23, 2020

What was the last time I did a tag? Who even knows. But I'm doing one today! Answering all the burning questions you didn't even know you had about my writing! And guess what--I didn't even steal this one! I was tagged by Nicole Dust so. Totally legal tag time. LET'S DANCE.

THE RULES:

Link and thank the blogger who tagged you.
Include the graphic somewhere in the post (or make your own!)
Answer the questions truthfully and honestly. . . .

...started a novel I didn't finish

Dude. All the time. Constantly. *coughs*

...written a story completely by hand

I used to only write by hand. It was the easiest way to do it when I was younger. No longer but it used to be my ONLY way of writing. The two earliest drafts of The King's Daughter were handwritten.

...changed tenses midway through a story

Probably? I don't know, man. I kind of doubt it. I usually write past-tense, except in Watched where I do first-person and present-tense.

...not researched anything before starting a story

Look, guys, I'm a fantasy author. That gives me license to do WHATEVER I want. I don't research. Ever. My beta readers chewed me out for this so much. I sound like an idiot sometimes because I write like I know what I'm talking about and then...I know NOTHING. Absolutely nothing.

...changed a protagonist's name halfway through a draft

Clarence's name used to be Tom in the Pentegreens series. Half of my  characters, I'll invent and then promptly forget their names and have to rename them. This is why I write down every scrap of brainstorming these days. I forget it allllll otherwise.

...written a story in a month or less

*points at NaNoWriMo 2019* 119,000 words in 30 days. The full novel, done. Fight me. I'm going to win.

...fallen asleep while writing

No.

...corrected someone's grammar in person or online

*whistles innocently* Definitely not. Right, Brookie dearest?

...yelled at myself in all caps in the middle of a draft

Lila can attest to the fact that I did this in the middle of Pentegreens 3 *cackles* and also I wrote an entire draft of TKD where half of it was me yelling sarcastic commentary at Episode 2 of Star Wars. It's kind of hilarious. Here are some highlights:

"EW HOW CAN YOU TELL HE’S SWEATING?"
"HAYDEN CAN’T EVEN PRONOUNCE HIS GIRLFRIEND’S STUPID NAME!"
NOOOOOOOO!!!!! HOW COULD YOU JUST DECIDE TO DO THAT?????
"she sat down and said, “WELL YEAH, HOW COME I’M THE ONLY ONE WHO NOTICES THIS?” She didn’t actually say that. Instead, she said, “Well, I am going to sleep.”"

Wow I'm dead

...used "I'm writing" as an excuse

Frequently? It doesn't get me out of chores, but I've done it to stay up later xD

...killed a character you based on a real person

Look, the only character who ended up at all like someone I know is dead, but that wasn't intentional, okay? It truly wasn't. *coughs awkwardly*

...used pop culture references in a story

I try to avoid that at all costs, actually. Less edits for me later.

...written between the hours of 1 a.m. and 6 a.m.

I've never written between 1 and 5, but I have gotten up to write at 5 a couple of times.

...written down dreams to use in potential novels

Well. There was this dream I had once. No details, because #Spoilers, but...that dream entirely decided what Lord Dauthang looked like. It was entirely an accident.

...published an unedited story on blog/internet/wattpad

No, I usually edit first. I have done unedited snippets, though.

...procrastinated homework because I wanted to write

Me? absolutely not. NEVER.

...typed so long my wrists hurt

Every time I write over 5k on a given day (which does not happen often, but it does happen)

...spilled a drink on my laptop while writing

We're not even going to talk about this because it makes me angry to do that.

...forgotten to save my work

YES AND WE DO NOT TALK ABOuT THAT

...finished a novel

Well, I thought I had, until I realized that I had to scrap the whole thing and start over.

I did finish my novella for the Rooglewood contest, though!

....laughed like an evil villain while writing a scene

WHO ME? MWAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA. No, never. except when I killed one of my villains

...cried while writing a scene

WHO ME? MWAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA. No, never except when I killed one of the good guys

...created maps of my fictional worlds

I have to or I lose track of everything xD

...researched something shady for a novel

Not really because, like I said, I don't do research.

  2. I feel you on the research bit. I really enjoy doing research, I just tend to forget. And then when I do, I find myself four hours down that rabbit hole and with no memory of what I was doing before I started.

This was such a fun post!

  5. I loooove this tag and keep meaning to do it! It's bad how many of these I'm guilty of. *sheepish grin*

Reading your answers was SO much fun!!! That is so interesting Clarence's name used to be Tom. :O And I feel you SO HARD on writing things down. I'm forcing myself to get into that habit because I've lost sooo many ideas due to being dumb and not just taking a second to jot them down. I let myself believe the "Oh, I'll remember that" lie WAY too often.

Also, you yelling about Star Wars in your draft was life giving. Pure gold. XD

  6. I YELL AT MYSELF IN DRAFTS ALL THE TIME. I sadly can't think of any actual examples, but it's more entertaining than the story itself oftentimes.
