THE TIME IS UPON US and I am answering all your questions! It's going to be a good time. Especially because MY BLOG IS A WHOPPING THREE YEARS OLD TODAY.

So like...I know the world is a dark place at the moment and there's so much to worry about, but I'm pretty darn excited about this, so I'm quite happy to JUST think about my blog ;) Does that make me selfish? Probably. Can you tell I'm writing this in the middle of the night? Probably. Am I cramming? Definitely. But this is me, so why would you expect anything different?????

Without further ado or rambling...let's get into MY THIRD BLOGOVERSARY Q&A: You ask, I answer.

- YOUR favorite Newsies character + song? ;)
Accckkkkk. My favorite character is Davey, actually *smirks* and my favorite song is easily Once and For All.

- Rank your handwriting on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being absolute perfection.

5 in print, 6 in cursive. Honestly, it's pretty atrocious, and it's only gotten worse.

- What is your preferred form of caffeine intake?

If I had the choice? ICED COFFEE EVERY DAY. Since I don't have that available, however, it would be hot coffee. xD

- Favorite TV show at the moment?

The current show on the watchlist: Agent Carter!

What is your favorite book? (I have to ask this, it's tradition.)
*sighs heavily* I don't knooooowwwwwww. At the moment? Let's be cliche and say the Bible.

Does Esma break a heart?
Yes. Multiple. All the hearts. Mostly the readers'. Poor Lila. :'(
Who's your FAVORITE best friend? >:)
Lila, clearly.
You have to kill three male characters and one female in your book. Who do you choose? (Cannot be any of the bad guys, it can only be the good guys.)
Yiiiikes? Also why is this the actual number of good guys who die in one of my series

Since this could be any book, we'll go with Holding Up the Sky. I'd kill Daverby, Oscar, and Bernardo for the guys, and for the girls....Talia *nod nod*

- Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully graduated from college, with a nice job and a nice apartment with bookshelves full of novels, a published book, and a couple of cats. <3

- What are some simple, little things in life that bring you joy?

Cupcakes! Cats! The steam curling off the top of a cappuccino! Cappuccinos in general! A hug from my mommy or my sisters! When I'm coloring and the color comes out absolutely right! A text saying "I love you"! Bookmail! Clean laundry! So many little things--I could go on forever, but these are a few to start with.

- Where do you get the most inspiration from?

Movies provide me SO MUCH story fodder. I can't even explain how much time I've spent watching movies, stealing hints of story to stick into my own novels.

In art: I get tons of inspiration from random pictures off Pinterest and from my own life.

What is your least favorite word?
Barring profanities that are derogatory to women: coronavirus.

What is the worst topping for a pizza?
Hmm....I actually like pineapple (please don't murder me), every now and then. I don't like pepperoni all that much, though.

Favorite song at the moment?

"Redeemed to Redeem" by Austin Stone Worship!

What is something good that has happened to you recently?

Oh goodness...*thinks* *hard* A couple of writing updates have me very excited (*winky winky, more details coming later MAYBE), and my manager at work showered me with compliments the day I worked with her ;)

Can you cope with injuries (ie: BLOOOOOOOOD) or do you faint?? xD
I can cope with blood pretty well. I do hate needles with a vengeance, though, and if you draw my blood or give me a shot, I will most likely pass out. *Passed out from anxiety because of vaccines at the doctor a couple weeks ago* *whistles innocently*

Situation in which you were incredibly witty (and proud of it obviously)?

Oh goodness. Most of the time, I'm witty and regret it hardcore xD Because I think I'm being witty...but actually I hurt someone's feelings and will lie awake thinking about it for DECADES after. I'm trying to think of a good moment, but I can't. OH WELL

Which do you prefer: Old English, or text language?

Text language, because I can actually understand it *cackles*

Do you have a favorite Musical?

Wicked, Hamilton, Les Miserables, and Newsies top the list!

What book immediately comes to mind when asked for recommendations?

The Traitor's Game by Jennifer Nielsen, the Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson, and Heartless by Anne Elisabeth Stengl!

What is your favorite sentence that you've written?

The climax of my fourth book in the Pentegreens series includes the following sentence:

Esma Pentegreen closed her eyes and opened the floodgates.
Am I going to tell anyone why that's my favorite sentence? NOPE. But IT IS and I can't wait for the day when people understand why!

Do you play any musical instruments?

I've been playing the piano for almost eleven years! :D

-Cats or dogs??? This is very important because there is only one correct answer. *cough* cats *cough*
Correct answer is correct. ;) CATS IS CORRECT.

-Give me a one sentence pitch for your current WIP. *rubs hands together maniacally*

The legend of Atlas meets Rapunzel in this high fantasy story that combines music, portals, and monsters into a heist story where the object in question is a human...the only girl born with the unique abilities that could save the world from its crumbling sky.

-What’s the one song you can never skip, even if you’re not really in the mood for it?

"A Sky Full of Stars" by Coldplay. *hugs it softly*

-You have unlimited funds and a private jet. Where are you going? 💖💖

Ackkkkk idk mate. Right now, nowhere, haha. But in a few months...Italy for a tour of the ENTIRE country. And then I'll pop over to Ireland, England, Scotland, and Wales.

What made you decide to start a blog? (I've been toying with starting one, so I thought I should ask!)
I wanted to start a blog after taking a creative writing class where I did a small blog on my class wiki-page! It was a little thing about where I had traveled in my life, and only my classmates responded. But between that and a few other things, I decided that starting a blog seemed like a very smart thing to do. I was wrong. But I love it, wholeheartedly, and at this point I don't see myself stopping.

How old were you when you started writing?

Well, I wrote my first story at age four >:) It was about how much I hated my preschool teacher. True literature. I was probably 8 when I really started writing--I wrote several short stories and a couple of "novels" that never got much above 30k.

What's the best way to get out of a writing rut, in your opinion, of course?

Find a project that gives you passion and stick to it. If your main story is giving you trouble, try writing another. Of course, if you can't just STOP on the one you're currently doing, I have two main ways of breaking the rut:
>Take a day off. Just one. It doesn't hurt anything, and even if you don't quite hit your word count for that day, it'll help in the long run.
>Write something completely unrelated. When I have trouble with writing my actual novels, I'll frequently take a break and write a flash fiction story.

Movie Critic

First movie you remember seeing in the theater, and what did you think of it?
Curious George, the original movie, is the earliest I remember seeing. I was three, and I HATED it. I was sobbing from terror and my parents had to take me home not even halfway through. (The irony in that, of course, is that now Curious George is one of my favorite movies. Yes, I am graduating from high school in two months. Don't judge me.)

The most recent movie that you saw in a theater, and what did you think of it?

At the time of writing this: Call of the Wild! It was okay, I guess. The CGI was better than I expected, and I went with my little sister, who had an absolute BLAST watching it. So of course, her being so happy made me a happy camper. We had a good time.

How is the most amazing Rapunzel retelling ever coming?????

It's...existing xD But I would not say it's thriving. I finally hit 50k, but I kinda stalled there (thanks to some other big writing news, so I'm not really complaining (!!!)). I'd like to get back to it this coming week and SMASH that word count.

Invite your top five favorite Pentegreen characters and five other fictional favorites to dinner, would they get along or try to kill each other?

Let's go with for Pentegreens:
1. Rish
2. Derek
3. Esma
4. Cilla
5. Eira

And for other five:
1. Lazlo Strange

2. Simon Hatch
3. Leith Torren
4. Janner Igiby
5. Prince Lionheart

*casually invites every fictional guy I've ever had a crush on HAHAHAHA*

Well...I think they'd get along okay. There might be some tension between Rish, Leith, and Lionheart, considering their arcs are somewhat similar and so are their personalities, but the others would get along pretty well.

1.) Mulder or Scully?
Scully, my dear. Because someone has to be the irritated skeptic to your starry-eyed conspiracy theorist.

2.) If you had to pick only one other plot bunny to ever write (discluding Pentegreens or anything related to Pentegreens cause it is written and your cop out) which will it be?

*puppy dog eyes* Nickiiiiiii you can't do that to me

I guess my seven-book epic fantasy series in the works, Mountainsong? Because it would take the longest and I could just keep developing it *evil smile*

3.) You get to travel with the Doctor for 3 years but like die horribly afterwards would you do it?

Ermm....no. xD Much though I love the Doctor...I'd just rather not.

4.) Wasn't I nice to not give you absolutely cruel questions?

Keep telling yourself that >:(

-You have to either listen to only one song that you love for the rest of your life, or only listen to one artist whose music you don't like. Which is it?

I'll listen to that one artist. It'll be Panic! At the Disco. I will slowly lose my mind. I will die the death of a bachelor, my high hopes crushed, my life a tragedy but not a sin. It will be my roaring twenties. The only silver lining I see in this is that at least they won't threaten me with a good time.

-If your favorite one of your own characters were thrown into your favorite book, would they fit in? Survive? Hate it? Love it? xD

That would be Derek and I'd be throwing him into Goldstone Wood. Honestly, I think Derek can survive anywhere. He's so upbeat and extroverted that he'd make friends with villains if they let him. He's too outgoing, but it's fine. At least it would let him live.

-What was the last movie you watched?

*mind goes blank*

Well...I've been watching lots of Agent Carter and The Clone Wars on Disney Plus? But in terms of actual movies...I watched part of Luther a couple nights ago, and I watched Fantasia a while ago when I was sick. Good times.

(clearly I need to watch more movies)

What was your favorite part about pitching at RM?

My favorite thing about it? Sitting down with total strangers and suddenly letting myself start flailing over my characters. I gave my nice little neat elevator pitch--and then, all of the sudden, I was running into a giant, messy scream-fest about my characters and my plots and how much I love them.

What are three things you've incorporated into your life that have made a big difference?

1. Turning off my phone before bed and using something that isn't my phone as an alarm. It makes a HUGE difference, y'all. The peace of mind alone.

2. using a very detailed planner to detail what I need to do task-wise in a day and not just my school assignments
3. Listening to Christian music on the way to work. Yeah. It changes things. Drastically.

What is a book that you wish you could fangirl over more, but there doesn't seem to be a big fan-base?

That's a very good question. I would say Traitor's Game, but all my best friends like that series. I guess we'll go with All the Crooked Saints by Maggie Stiefvater. That one seems to be one of her least popular works, which makes me sad, because it's BRILLIANT.

Favorite book of 2020?

So far, it's Hereafter by Jody Hedlund. The ship, people. THE SHIP.

But I'm praying to find my next favorite? Soon? Because reading has been SO disappointing this year, and I just...I need something good to read. I read two series finales, and both of those were quite good, but didn't quite hit the very high mark. :P

Who is your favorite character out of your own?

Derek! Obviously. But Rish comes in a close second. ;)

Favorite quote?

"Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end."

(barring Bible verses, that is)

"Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end." #quote

Current fav song?

Since I already hit my favorite Christian song at the moment: Bad Decisions by Bastille.

Blue or cloudy skies?

Blue skies. I used to love cloudy skies, but living in a place where I'm constantly Vitamin D deficient has made me appreciate the sunshine.

Current fav Bible verse\passage?

John 3, the whole chapter. It's just...so beautiful. So much theology packed into such a short space. I love it. (Also the entire book of John? Also the entire book of Romans? And Revelation? And the second half of Isaiah????)

Fav villain quote from any book/movie?

WOW YIKES this is tough. *wracks brain*

How about Saruman on top of Orthanc, chanting, in Fellowship of the Ring? Because I like to copy that. Loudly. In the middle of my street while my neighbors stare at me. It's a good time for everyone but my siblings.

-Have you ever been to a Disney park?

Nope. NEVER. Not once. *sobs* I have been to Sea World, though! *crickets* Yeah, I know, it doesn't count. But IT WAS A ROLLICKING GOOD TIME.

-Prom dress or leather jacket?

Neither? Okay, that's not a viable option? Then we'll go with the situation. If I'm going to try to intimidate someone, I'll opt for leather jacket. If I'm doing literally anything else, prom dress. As long as it's more than a glorified halter. Because I need to stay warm. I get cold so easily.

-what movie is your current favorite?

At the moment...oh, goodness. I really love Amazing Grace, as always. Lord of the Rings has shot up to the top of the list again, though.

~ What's your favorite scent?

Old paper. Newly cut grass. Spaghetti cooking in the kitchen. Brownies. Anything cooking, basically.

~ A surprising realization you've had about yourself recently?

I'm not a night owl. And I don't get sleepy as easily as I once thought...which means putting myself to bed intentionally *cringes*

~ If you could have one standalone book get turned into a seven-book series, which book would you pick?

Once again, All The Crooked Saints by Maggie Stiefvater! I feel like there is SO much story fodder in that world to be explored.

THANK YOU ALL so much for reading my blog, commenting, and always checking in. It means the world to me--I couldn't do this without you all.

And to celebrate my blog's birthday...I made a birthday cake. Featuring a selection of names. ;) Thank you all so muuuuuuch for everything.

Here's to another year!

  1. Happy blogoversary! Woohoo for three years!!! I'm so glad that I found your blog, girly! <3

Ah, Amazing Grace is one of my favorite movies, too!! So beautiful. <3

I like Curious George, too, but I can't figure out what you were screaming in terror about. XD Were you afraid of monkeys?

Rish, Esma, and Derek are the best!!! <3 I admit that I am surprised that Kara wasn't one of the five. I don't know any of the other fictional characters that you listed...

Lovely cake, don't mind of I take a piece. ;)

    1. Thank you! I'm so glad we're connected now! :D

      It's such a good movie <3

I think it was just the amount of noise more than anything *cackles* I AM A MESSY PERSONNNNN OKAY. Especially as a toddler. I was Disaster Child.

I mean, yeah, the Main Five protagonists would work too xD But I love Cilla too much to slight her, and I couldn't choose between Anna and Kara...

      <3 Go for it!!!!

  2. I have no idea why the font formatting is doing the thing it's doing, and I tried MULTIPLE times to fix it but THE BLOG WILL NOT HAVE IT so. My apologies. It's driving me crazy too xD

  3. Congrats on three years!!! That's super awesome!!

Cats is always the answer. They are the superior creature.

Also, I loved your answer for the pitching!! I had a similar experience!

I'd love to hear more about All the Crooked Saints. I recently read Scorpio Races and I really enjoyed it, so I've wanted to know a little more about her books. If you'd like to fangirl flail at me, I'd love to hear it!

Also, I recently watched Agent Carter and I'm mad that there's only two seasons like Peggy Carter deserved better and that's the tea.

    1. Thank you!!!!!!

cats are brilliant and that's all there is to it

Thanks! And ahhh, that's so awesome! :D

It's a GREAT book. I'll shoot you a message at some point when I remember xD

Agreed. She's such a wonderful character *sobs*

      Thanks! <3

DOGS FOR LIFE OKAY? I love you and Bree but like...dogs.

Boo, I'm so proud of you. Happy three years. Here's to many more. <3 <3 <3 <3 Love you.

    1. I said I wouldn't spam but I lied

    2. Because I'm your bestie so I spam

<3 It's okay if I had a dog who loved me I'd feel the same way

Thank you <3 I love you more. ;)

Okay but I can't get over your first story being about how much you hated your preschool teacher. That is fantastic. xD Also what the heck happened in that Curious George movie??

YAYY FOR AGENT CARTER. I haven't seen season 2 yet? BUT SEASON ONE. <3 (still not recovered from that ending, though)

I'm kind of surprised because for some reason I pictured you as someone who would be a leather jacket wearer?? I would certainly rather run around in one of those than a prom dress, but major props if you could actually do that. xP

I love your cake!! Happy blogaversary again!! (Dude I'm becoming an exclamation-point crazed weirdo and I don't know how to feel about it xD)

    1. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! *flails*

I KNOW xD And I have no idea tbh? It just terrified me beyond all reason.

IT WAS SUCH A GOOD SEASONNNNN and honestly I think it tops season 2? But I know I have friends who say otherwise.

I would love a leather jacket! But dresses tho ;) Pretty dresses if they're flattering are my secret weakness.

Thank you!!! <3 And hey, that's my favorite kind of punctuation anyway ;)

I loved hearing your thoughts on...ALL of this! I, too, get inspiration from movies and pics on pinterest. I've gotten like half a thousand plot bunnies just scrolling on pinterest. XDDD SO MUCH INSPIRATION GAH.

I am so curious about these exciting writing updates!!! :O

Okay, but that question about five of your characters having dinner with five other characters was amazing and I WANT TO ATTEND THIS DINNER. PENTEGREENS PEOPLE. LAZLO. LEO. JUST YES.

I love your drawn birthday cake so, so much. IT'S PRECIOUS! <3

HAPPIEST OF HAPPY BLOGIVERSARIES, M'DEAR!!!!!!!! *throws all the confetti* I am so grateful for blogger because it's how we found each other and I can't even imagine life with my Faith! *ALL THE HUGS OF EVER*

    1. Awwww thank you *sobs* <3

I love finding plot bunnies on Pinterest. My favorite thing to do is scroll through my inspo boards for flash fiction ideas (or for plot twists in my novels...mwahaha.)

Hopefully I'll be able to share soon!!!! I'm pretty excited for them ;)

YES PENTEGREENS AND LAZLO AND LEO AND JUST GAAAAHHHH my loves. All my loves. *heart eyes*

Thank you! <3 I had a blast making it xD

Thank you so much <3 <3 <3 I'm so glad we were able to find each other via blogging! You are SUCH a blessing *sends all the hugs straight back to you*

  9. Please tell me I'm not the only one who skipped down to where my questions were answered and THEN and ONLY THEN read the other answers?! xD
ALSO CONGRATS ON 3 YEARS!!!!!!!! <33333333333

    1. Oh no I do that on every Q&A ever xD No worries.

      Thanks!!! <3333333333

  10. I returned from hiatus for this and now I feel bad for postponing my own one year anniversary but happy three years to yoooouuuuu...

Wow... you would pick Daverby to kill???? I'm never gonna recover from that *grabs Bernardo and Talia and leaves in a huff*

*returns toting AoD cause it wanted to see its cousin* MOUNTAINSONG!!!!! An excellent choice of course and the only right choice at this point.

But Skully... even you have to admit things are fishy, and it isn't just the lake monster I need to go and write about.

    1. Ey it's okay xD Sometimes it doesn't work out.

I would and I'm not sorry >:) but yeah you can have Talia, if you want the R-rated violence.

AoD and Mountainsong will conquer the world someday and there's no if and or but about it.

Oh sure quite fishy. *glares at the Nessie hiding in my backyard*

  11. Of course it's Derek XD
    He's awesome!

  12. Aw shucks. XD <333

I LOVE this Q&A more than I can sayyyyy. Curious George is like my favorite movie too, that quote is soooo inspiring, and WOW I need to reread All the Crooked Saints because it's been WAY too long.

And the CAAAAAKE. So lovely!!! Happy blogiversary, girl. <3 I adore your blog and every single one of your posts so much and can't wait to see what comes next!

    1. <3 <3 You're the bestest.

Happy blogoversary Faith!!! Here's to many more years!!

    1. Oh my goodness that's so cool! :D

      Thank you so much! <3

  15. Me on Pinterest: It's RESEARCH, Mum!
Me watching movies: It's RESEARCH, Mum!
    My mum: ...

Pineapple is a GREAT pizza topping. I will fight beside you for this, Faith.

"I decided that starting a blog seemed like a very smart thing to do. I was wrong" SAME. xD

The first movie I saw in the cinema was the Grinch, and I too had to be taken out sobbing and terrified. xD

I listen to exactly one (1) Panic! at the Disco song. It's Into the Unknown. I have to sing every time it comes on (and often when it doesn't). Them's the rules.

(This comment jumps around horribly and has no connecting tissue. [It's a... dancing skeleton??] Sorry, Faith... there were just so many points that made me go "OOH YES". Anyway, HAPPY BLOGOVERSARY!)

  16. This was so fun to read!! Happy Blogiversary!! I lOOOOOOOOOVED that list of small happy things that you listed: it just made me really happy. :)

    Hanne || losingthebusyness.wordpress.com

  17. AGENT CARTER IS MY DEEPEST OBSESSION!!!! And I kind of thought there was no one else in the world who still loved it. I kind of need to know who your favorite characters (besides Peggy, obviously) are.

  18. Hey, I just wanted to say, I did start that blog I was toying with! I would love for you to take a look! And I would love some advice!!! Lol You are a huge inspiration for me, so thank you!

    1. Sorry, it is now:

Hello, friends! Do make yourselves comfortable and stay for a while--I'd love to chat with you! I simply ask that you keep it clean. :)
