A Bruised Reed

by - September 20, 2019

"A bruised reed he will not break and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out." (Isaiah 42:3)

How often is this the case for you?

How often are you pretty sure you'd qualify as little more than a bruised reed? You're aching. Your heart is broken. Someone stepped on you and broke you and now there's just a thread connecting you to yourself. You could snap at any moment.

That's me.

I broke a long time ago and I'm still trying to put myself back together. Sometimes I think I've succeeded. But then I find a crack that I missed, one of those places where everything came apart and never came back together. Sometimes I missed a tiny hole and it grew bigger. Sometimes a new crack sprouts from nowhere.

And I grab the super glue and run to my heart and frantically, furiously, paste myself back together.

Only to break again.

I can't fix me.

Someone FIX ME

Why am I the one who has to fix me?

You're not the one who has to fix yourself, my love. It is not up to you.

You're not alone. You are not alone.

If you love Christ, if your heart is fixed on him, if you cry out to him...

He will deliver you.

God loves you, my friend.

God is holding you.

A bruised reed he will not break.

A smoldering wick he will not snuff out.

How strong are you? Can you fight much longer? None of us can hold out forever.

We're holding on by a thread.

My circumstances have bruised me. I'm bent, folding under the weight of wind.

My inner darkness snuffs out my light, and I know for a fact that I'm far from the Christian I should be.

But He doesn't let go.

No, He holds on to me.

And He will hold on to you too.

Because He loves you, my dear one.

Rest in his love.

Remember that he's not going to snuff you out.

He's holding you.

  3. YES YES YES!!! There aren't even words to describe how comforting it is that we are not alone. That literally the CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE cares about us, is there for us wholly and fully, LOVES us. He is truly the ultimate Healer and Comforter. We don't have to rely on ourselves. He's going to hold us up when we can't.

Thank you for this reminder, precious Faith! *ALL THE HUGS*

  5. Thank you so much for this. <3 <3 I often feel like I'm shattered in too many pieces to put back together too, but Jesus set me free and He sees me as whole in Him. It's so true that we need to fix our eyes on Him to see ourselves the right way - the way HE sees us.

Love this post. So timely for me. <333
