Love is a Good Thing

by - June 20, 2017

I am embarking on a new challenge for the rest of this summer. Each week, I am going to be focusing on incorporating one of the Fruits of the Spirit (Galations 5:22-23) into my daily life, adding one a week. One post a week will be focused on that trait here on my blog. If you want to join me, feel free, and let me know in the comments :)

Love. It's a word we use a lot. And the new cliché, rather than "love is blind" or something like that, seems to be "love is an action, not a feeling." It's been said so many times that we tend to go, "Yeah, yeah, whatever," and shrug it off.

But the action of love is a very real thing, and it's not something that can be summed up in a single paragraph.

Love is when you roll out of bed in the night and sing the baby back to sleep, even though you could just sleep through it and let her cry.

Love is doing the dishes in the dead of night instead of watching that movie.

Love is sitting by the bedside of a wrinkled face, clasping a hand and whispering that you're there to someone who doesn't remember your name.

Love is when you drop the books and go running to pick up your sister when she cries.

Love is giving up your time, your money, your comfort, your schedule, your emotions, and your security to take an orphan to whom you owe nothing into your home and show him what a family really is.

Love is crying out on your knees all night for the family member who has run off and made the worst choices that you can imagine.

Love is donating the time and money you'd initially planned to use for something else to volunteer and help those who you've never met.

But, of course, love is also a giddy feeling in your chest when you see the person you want to spend the rest of your life with.

Love is both the knowledge and the emotion that carry you to the altar.

Love is crying when you see your baby's face for the first time and never feeling something like this before.

But there is more to love even than this.

Love is a cry in a manger one night.

Love walked the earth, healing those it came into contact with.

Love was hands stretched out on the cross.

Love was an explosion of light out of the tomb.

The challenge this week: Live like He lives. Love like He loves. Let yourself go. Consider others more significant than yourself.

We love because he loved us first. ~1 John 4:9

  1. This is so beautiful. I love this. (pun somewhat intended.)
You described love not only as a feeling, but an action. A purpose. A perfect Person who once walked the earth.
    God bless you!

I love that Britt Nicole/Lecrae song. I was actually listening to it the entire time I was writing the post ;)

    4. Ooh, NF is awesome. I like some of his music. Some is a little too dark, but I love I'll keep on and Can you hold me from his older album. His new one is pretty good, too.

    5. His music is a tad depressing, so when I listen to him I listen to one of his songs and then one of Lecrae's songs and then one of his songs and so on, so I don't get super depressed or anything. ^^

  3. I'm about to cry. This is so true. We love ourselves too much sometimes and just ignore those who need us. Maybe it's giving your lunch up at school for a kid who probably won't eat the rest of the weekend. Or maybe it's forgiving a relative who's abused you or hurt you your whole life. It doesn't matter. We hung Jesus on a cross and cursed him and told him we hated him (or thought it), but he still loves us. We try to push him away, but he's pulling us to himself. Drawing us closer. It's so beautiful. God forgives us when we can't even forgive ourselves. He holds us and cries over us. He prays for us. He said to love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. When they nailed him to the cross, this is what he said: "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do". After all that, he forgave us. Right there and then. It's so hard to imagine sometimes. I know if someone killed me like that, I'd be so angry, but even then, Jesus didn't sin. He could have blasted them all (seriously, he could have called down his angels to get him and off 'em all), but Jesus did not. he loved them. He loved us even then. He said, "I have to do this for Faith." He said that about us all. He knew he had to do it for me, and for the rest of you. He loved us even then, and even know when we say and think all those sick thoughts. He still loves us. He loves YOU. <3

    1. This is a beautiful comment. Thank you for taking the time to leave this :) I want him to be glorified. It's just so hard. And yet... he loves me. Me! Every day is another chance to give our lives to him. And we need to live like he calls us to.

    2. Thank you. I don't know, but I felt like God was telling me to write this. He grave me the words to say. I love my friend. <333
Hey, I enjoyed every second writing it. ;)
Yes, Faith. He loves you, girl! You're who he calls Friend, My Lover, My helper, My child, My messenger. Seriously! He spoke to me one time and he told me (It was almost audible) "You are my message". I was like "Say, whaaa? Lol
Every minute counts. We give account if we abuse the little time we have. We need to listen to him when he gives us the little urges to tell someone about him. You'll be in heaven and a person could walk up to you and say, "I'm here because of you." BECAUSE OF YOU!!! How AWESOME would that be?! To be the person God uses to save that person from condemnation?! I know God is really talking to me and I'm not thinking it up because there's this song called "A Prayer" by Kings Kaleidoscope (if you listen to it, listen to the censored version because there's the F-bomb in it. I understand why he put it in the song *desperation of a soul* , but still. I don't really want to hear cussing if you know what I mean.) Annnnnnnyway, I heard it say that God was terrified before he died, and Jesus told me that he was so tormented and scared in the Garden of Gethsemane before he was arrested because he knew what was coming. He also said that he did it anyway becuase he knew what was before him (Us!). I love that dude. Lol
      God bless! <3

  4. Love is what this world needs we can change the world if only we loved one another.. Love to me is not a romance, to me it's more a grow-mance because some people are hard to love. When you love that is light and tho people may try with all their might can not take it from you.

  5. "Love is crying out on your knees all night for the family member that has run off and made the worst choices."

That line made me almost break down in tears! I've been going through that very thing. A close family member has turned away from God and chosen to pursue what the world offers. It's so heartbreaking and I've been feeling very hopeless. I need to be on my knees more, praying that God would get ahold of this person's heart. Love does what is best for the other person, and this person needs so much prayer.

    Amazing post! :)

  6. "Love is a Good Thing" is a song I always have to listen to more than once. There's so much packed into those paradoxical lyrics.

    Great post, Faith!
I'm a bit intimated over how powerful Love is, and how small my understanding is- but I can also see how beautiful, how worthwhile Love is. I was reminded of this as I saw my cousin's face while he watched his bride coming up the aisle.
