The Comp Title Challenge
Hey, everyone! Madeline J. Rose over at Short and Snappy created this challenge where you have to come up with books that are similar to your WIPs. Like "A Time to Die" meets "Wolf by Wolf," for example (just the first two books that came to mind, but OH MY SOMEONE PLEASE WRITE THAT BOOK.) So! Today you get a selection of Comp Titles that are similar to my books!
This won't be all of the books I've written/have ideas for (I came up with a new plot bunny last night, actuallly...haha) but it's going to be fun anyway. I hope.
This was a really fun challenge, but really tough...I will be tagging people, so prepare yourselves for that ;)
Here are Madeline's rules:
- Pick a few (or all!) of your WIPS!
- Give them some comp titles!
- Tag a few peoples if you wish!
- Have fun!
Here we go!
The King's Daughter// X-Men meets Lord of the Rings meets the Last Jedi
X-Men because all of the characters have rather unique (if I do say so myself) powers. Lord of the Rings because epic fantasy and that was one of its earliest influences, and also because the scope and battles are very similar. Last Jedi because of the complexity of the relationships.
Ink Storm//Fangirl meets Tomorrowland with Unicorns
I haven't read Fangirl, but I know it's about a girl in college who writes. Tomorrowland because of the premise of a girl who finds a way to a world that only she can see. And unicorns. Self-explanatory.
Alone in this Dark//Wolf by Wolf meets Mockingjay Part 1 meets Man in the High Castle (without sci-fi elements)
This is the super-secret project that y'all still don't know much about. It's alternate history about America and deep-running, well-planned revolution. And that's all I'm going to say about that.
White Rose//Les Miserables meets Nazi Germany
Ugh, I'm just better at putting stories in a different time period. Basically this one is a retelling of the major facets of Les Miserables, but Fantine is a Jewish woman, the Thenardiers are SS people, and the ABC cafe boys are a young group of revolutionaries allied with the White Rose and Sophie Scholl. I don't know a ton about this story yet, but I'm very eager to write it. <3
Wings//World War I meets The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe meets Game of Thrones (WITHOUT the content!)
The story of this one is basically World War I set in a fantasy world, so the conflict is where that comes from, and then TLWW for its strong sibling bonds and just rollicking fantasy feel that gets DEEP. I don't know anything about Game of Thrones (besides the content) other than that its scope is huge and it has dragons. So. We'll go with that.
Rise, You Lost Boy//Katniss Everdeen meets the Yearling
I got this plot bunny by mashing together two of my favorite concept albums (Light for the Lost Boy by Andrew Peterson and Rise by Skillet.) I know nothing about it, except that I love this pitch so much. A dystopia in the wild swamps of Southern Florida? Yes please.
And the Sky Fell Down//The Refugee Crisis meets Star Wars
A sci-fi world where two countries are ripping each other to shreds and the people caught in the middle have to flee. It is in fact politically inspired. I know. But I think it'll be heartrending and excellent when I finally get around to writing it (someday).
Teacher, Meet World//These Happy Golden Years meets The Lost Girl of Astor Street meets Star Wars meets Divergent
This is a really cool idea I had that was inspired by an awful dream (my brain is so weird...) The idea is that a rich girl decides to become a teacher for the underworld of her city (hence Happy Golden Years (because teacher) and Star Wars (specifically Episode 2 and the Clone Wars, for the technology and the underworld part.)) But then her students start vanishing. (Hence Lost Girl.) And Divergent ties in there too, but I can't tell you why, because that would be spoilers...XD
Tagging:

All your books sound INCREDIBLE! (Especially The King's Daughter....) This is such an awesome tag! I’m glad you did it!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nicole! And that's the one that I'm actively editing right now, so I'm hoping to have it ready to enter the world before too long...(although of course we'll see how that goes...) It's super fun!
DeleteUM YOU NEED TO WRITE ALL OF THESE SO I CAN READ THEM NOW PLZ, THANKS.
ReplyDeleteAHHH YES I KNOW I DO AND YET IT'S SO OVERWHELMING AND HALF OF THEM HAVE NO PLOT AND ARGH
DeleteWow! All of these sound really cool and I hope I get to read some of them :).

DeleteAnd I thought /maybe/ you had, but I couldn't remember xD It's all good!
Ooooooh, this tag seems super tough! I shall try to do it, though... If I can get around to it. XD
ReplyDeleteDude, your comp titles are so intriguing! I especially love the one for Ink Storm - I've never read Fangirl, but still. AWESOME comp title. :D
Yes you should! XD It was really hard, though, I won't deny it.
DeleteI haven't read it either (haha) but thanks! <3
FAAAAITH! You always come up with the coolest, most unique story ideas! I'm in love with ALL of these ideas! I really like how your comp titles weren't just other stories, but actual real life events, like wars. What a fascinating concept! Wings especially sounds juuuust up my alley! Big fantasy world in war and sibling relationships? YES PLEASE. Teacher, Meet World also sounds so, sooo epic and fun! AWK. ALL OF THESE DO. You have the best imagination!
ReplyDeleteAlso kudos to you for coming up with comp titles. I am the wooorst at that. Ugh.
I'm super into retelling historical events and real-world events for some reason...I've never known quite /why/, but it's probably because I'm a history and politics buff xD THANK YOU FOR ALL THE COMPLIMENTS XD
DeleteAnd it took FOREVER to pu this post together, so don't raise me too high xD
You have a story with Les Mis elements and Sophie Scholl?! That sounds awesome! I want this book right now, please and thank you.
ReplyDeleteTeacher, Meet World also looks like such a cool story.
Yes! I will probably write it...someday...xD

I WILL TRY!
DeleteYou're so welcome! <3
Such a fun idea! All of these sound amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It was tough but fun to put together ^_^
DeleteThat Les Mis book=AMAZING. I'm a huge fan of Les Mis and I'm fascinated by the world wars so this sounds exactly like my cup of tea. Please write this asap :D
ReplyDeleteActually all your ideas sound really cool. I'd read any and all of them.
I love doing historical retellings too. All of my novels are historical retellings (and one I would describe as a Les Mis meets Great depression meets futeristic world) and another one is a retelling of Marie Antoinette's life/the French Revolution set in a fantasy world.
And yes for the siblings!
I actually am very eager to write that one (like all of these) and eventually I promise I WILL get to it! <3
DeleteThank you so much Chelsea! This is awesome <3
And your story ideas sound amazing. I'd totally read the French Revolution in a fantasy world.
Oh my goodness, all of these sound so fascinating!!! My apologies, but I kinda do need Wings like today. Ink Storm as well. I expect them on my desk by tomorrow morning, lol.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, though, you're great at pitches! These sound like such interesting combinations!
