Don't Take Time for Granted

by - February 09, 2018

We're from the West (most of us anyway)

Which means we're rich in money but not rich in time.

We sit in front of screens and fritter away

The thing that makes us all equal

No matter how much is in your bank account

Everyone gets 24 hours a day

Dollar signs make us the 1%

But in reality we're among the 100%

24 hours a day and you could die at any time

How you spending that currency?

Are we all just millennials,

throwing away our lives,

Partying and claiming we live like there's no tomorrow

When we really know that we're living like we have a thousand years?

God gives his people a chance every day

To make a difference, make a change,

Make the world a better place.

And we might be poor (heaven knows I am,

Even with my smartphone and computer and expensive keyboards)

but in time everyone's equal.

Time is a gift. Time is a currency.

Time can't be wasted.

So how will you use your time?

Put down the phone, turn off the computer, stop doing things that don't matter

It's time to live like there is no tomorrow

Like every breath could be your last

It's hard

It's not natural

But it's worth it.

Time is a gift.

We're all equal in it.

Let's treat it like so.

~Faith

  2. YES. YESSSSS!!! THIS WAS BEAUTIFUL AND RUNG WITH ME SO HARD! I'm constantly thinking about how I flit away time, how so many years have passed. Have I been using the few years I have on this earth wisely? Using my life to glorify God's kingdom? Probably not. Or not NEARLY as much as I should be.

Just...wow, Faith. This was so perfect. This line especially struck me:
"No matter how much is in your bank account
Everyone gets 24 hours a day"

You're right. We all have 24 hours a day. And we should be valuing every single minute in those hours and using them for God.

THANK YOU FOR THIS!!! It's something I needed to read and need to take to heart!

    1. Oh my goodness, I'm so glad this resonated with you, Christine! My goal was to make people think--it really made me think too...these are personal reflections as much as anything else. I've been wasting so much time lately and all I can think about is what else could I have done with that time?

Yes. <3 I'm so glad this was helpful for you!!!!

  7. So many people waste time... you brought up a good point about screens! That’s why I deleted most of my social media apps off my phone (it’s one of the main reasons, actually). I find life to be more productive with that change. ^.^

    1. I had to delete all my apps too--when I'm just using the internet browser it doesn't suck quite so much time, for whatever reason. <3 It definitely is more productive to use less time on social media.

  9. Beautiful poem, Faith! I think all of us constantly need this reminder. We're teenagers, after all... The Internet is our lifeline. I mean, that's what most people think, right?

    #stereotype

It doesn't have to be that way. Amen, girl - let's go do something that doesn't suck our time away without our even realizing it!

    1. I know! That frustrates me so much, that everyone thinks we're glued to the internet. We're more than that! We are individuals!

      Amen and amen. <3

  10. This really made me think!! One of my goals this year is to spend less time and more time doing things that keep me creative and thinking outside the box that tech is creating around society. This is very encouraging! :)
