Oh, Look, Faith Wrote a Novel!!!!! (feat. synopses and snippets from the Pentegreen series because you know you want those)

Hello everyone!!!! Today I have a super special blog post for you--I have finished my novel The General's Children, the SECOND book in my Pentegreens Series!!!! It clocked in at 130,484 and 73 chapters, which is astounding--definitely the longest book I've ever written. I'm kind of freaking out over here (don't mind me....XD)

I've also recently learned that I enjoy making collages, so here is a collage for this second book in the series (not all the pics are quite accurate, but they all come pretty close.)

I sort of have a synopsis, too, but it's not very good....Since I never got around to doing a victory post for book 1, I'll give you the synopsis for that one too (which hopefully isn't too spoilery...)

Book 1, The King's Daughter:

Some nightmares can't be escaped.
The world is at war. The land of Venaria, enslaved to the mysterious dictator Dauthang, sends its army to lay seige to King Martin's city. Battles rage, and every shadow could conceal a spy.
In the middle of it all stands Princess Esma--the prize Dauthang seeks. The war that haunts her nightmares grows much closer when a training exercise brings her face to face with a particularly frightening enemy soldier. When that same soldier reappears, claiming to be a deserter, she finds herself entangled deep into the web of danger springing up around her city.
Both sides are fraught with secrets. Trust seems like a thing of the past. Esma will need all of her cunning to navigate the treacherous waters of this war if she's ever to have any chance at peace again...

Book 2, The General's Children (and the one that I just finished!!!):

Last month, Esma Pentegreen vanished for five days.
Now she's home, but she's not the same girl she once was.
The Pentegreens hold out to a desperate hope that their lives will return to a state of some normalcy in the autumn to come. But when Queen Bernathel's horse returns from patrol alone with blood on the saddle, any dreams of life without war go crashing down.
Spies lurk in the shadows of the palace. A princess's heart becomes a battleground. Darkness spreads its wings over the Pentegreens.
And somewhere in the North, a boy clings to life, his sister's loyalty the only thing that could keep him alive.

So those are the blurbs--what do y'all think? I slaved over those things and they're probably not very good...but we try. XD

I also made a playlist for this story, which is BELOW:
(And haha it's mostly Imagine Dragons but that's cool...)

Now, because we all know why you're really here....have some snippets.

Snippets

I stared at him, waiting for him to finish.
“The hard truth is that fire and ice are equal. One can always outdo the other. The determining factor is time.” He looked away into the horizon. “Fire and ice….is there truly, ever, a victor?”
A worthy question. For as it turns out now, ice is split in two. The power in the hands of one; the chill in the hands of the other.
And the heir of fire? Well, no one knows. The question seems to be: Does the Heir of Fire hold any fire at all?

Esma, maybe?
Esma, approximately, in this book: via Pinterest

She rocked herself back and forth, shuddering sobs shaking her whole body.
No one came to find her. She would’ve been surprised if they had. But the aching loneliness did not fade, and the terrible, terrible grief continued to rear its ugly head over her. Towering as high as the ceiling of this library, preparing to strike.
A living, sentient being.
A monster.
Like--Dauthang.

“What’s up, Your Majesty?” Derek saluted in the king’s direction. “Permission to call you Martin for the rest of this meeting?"
“You have no respect,” Kariana informed him.
“None at all,” Martin agreed, the ghost of a smile lighting up his face. “Permission granted, Derek. I need your advice on something.”
“Sweet! My advice.” Derek grinned.

“Heads up,” Derek said, plopping down in the chair beside hers. “Fisher should be getting home today--ugh, what did you do to your face?”
Kariana rolled her eyes at him. “I messed up on the cheekbones. It’s called experimentation. Sorry about that. If you hate it so very much, why don’t you just go get me some more makeup? I’d love you forever if you did!” Getting up at five in the morning to bleach her hair, dye her hair, paint her face, change the cheekbones, make her eyes a little bit smaller than they had been, give her lips a built-in curve, and grit her teeth as she yanked shut her own corset...men had no idea how much work it was.
“I hope you don’t mind my asking, but...why did you do this?”
“Like I said, it’s called experimentation.” She stuffed a piece of toast into her mouth and pointed to the empty chair beside her own. “Sit in a chair, for heavens’ sake. I can see it now--at your funeral, the layman getting up and saying something like ‘He died tragically, falling off a table and being pummeled with hot toast that burned him to death. This came as a result of his making fun of his best friend’s makeup.”
“You’re saying you’d tip me off the table?” Derek gave her an offended smirk, even as he dropped into the chair.

Someone stood in the doorframe, barring her way. Ulash. Of course.
Anna pulled up and snarled her irritation. “Out of my way, you.” She lifted her hands and used her power to shove him out of the doorway and up against the wall. “You going to tattle to my dad?”
“Oh, no, actually, Anna dear. Your father is looking for you.”
“And sent you to do his dirty work? Yeah, right.” She made to grab the doorknob to the kitchens.
A voice boomed--or rather, screamed with ultimate fury--down the hall. “ANNA!”
“I told you he’s looking for you,” Ulash said, maintaining utter calm.
Oh, look! I sort of found a picture of Burashna. (via Pinterest)

Important truth for this book that no one wants to admit...via Pinterest
Hope y'all enjoyed reading this one! I had a great time writing it (except for when Blogger shut down randomly...ugh.) I love this story and even though it needs a TOOOOON of work, I'm excited to move on to book 3, get editing, and bring this series that is so precious to my own heart a little closer to being ready to enter the world!
